Trail Conditions

Email Don with any updates of conditions along trail you may encounter.

June 7, 2005

This is to notify you that my family & I have come to the decision to post our property to anyone without express written permission to be on the land.

It is unfortunate that the Mid State trail crosses the property in the town of Ashburnham on the western side of Stodge Meadow Pond & the Northern side of Mount Hunger.

The Property being reffered to belongs to George, Karen & Steven Young. No Trespassing signs will be posted this coming weekend.

The reasons behind our decision are the numerous confrontations we have encountered from the Stodge Meadow Association regarding the logging operation that we had undertaken this past winter.

So as not to discriminate against anyone we feel it proper to restict access to anyone that has not obtained our written consent to be on the property.

Violators will be prosecuted if caught.

Sincerely
Steve Young

Steve Young will allow traveler's to cross his property if they send a self addressed stamped envelope requesting permission to:

George & Karen Young
15 Fred Smith Rd.
Westminster, MA 01473

Travelers will be issued a "pass card".

Re Route in Ashburnham at Holt Rd. 7-16-06

If you're walking north from Mt. Hunger summit you cannot continue on the old route because it's clearcut, and we've got new yellow triangles pointing you westerly onto the new route. If you walk south, from Holt Road, the yellow triangles direct you around the back of the trailer and on to the haybale/silt fence, which the trail is [sort of] following during this construction phase.

The trail in Charlton has been re-routed from Stafford Street and Cemetery Road to go over Fay Mountain Farm.  Hikers should follow the yellow blazes and white arrows.  A sign to this effect has been placed at the north and south beginning of this section.

A short section of the trail is rerouted.  Now, instead of entering the woods off  Route 12, crossing the brook on the little bridge, and climbing the ridge a bit, you enter on an old cart road off Route 12(south of original spot) and walk up it a ways, then take a left onto the old trail. It's not bad, but I liked the old trail better.  The brook is beautiful and the climb is nicer on the trail than on a cart road, oh well.  The important thing is, it's open!

The French River Bridge is now open and the trail can be rerouted to go over it rather than over the Hodges Village dam...

JUST WALKED  OXFORD SECTION AND THE FRENCH RIVER BRIDGE IS IN PLACE.   Abutments necessary , but looks very nice. Made our walk a circle rather than a forward and backward.
