DIRECTIONS FOR MIDSTATE TRAIL HIKES
ROUTE 16 DOUGLAS - Take Route 395 to Exit 2. Head East on Route 16 for 4.3 miles. Parking lot entrance on right. If you’re coming from the east (that is, heading on Route 16 West, watch for the main entrance to Douglas State Forest on your left (this is Cedar Street). Head another .9 miles west. Parking lot on left.
CENTRAL TURNPIKE IN WEST SUTTON - Take Route 395 to Exit 4A. Turn onto Sutton Ave. heading east (away from Oxford Center) for 3.2 miles to church on right. From Route 146 take Central Turnpike towards Oxford for 4.7 miles. Church on left.
ROCKY HILL ROAD - Take 395 South to Exit 4B. At end of exit bear right for .3 miles to light at Route 12 in Oxford Center. Take right onto Route 12 and head north for 1.1 miles. Take left on to Rocky Hill Road across from police station. Go to yellow gate at end - - about .5 miles.
ROUTE 20 IN CHARLTON - From the intersection of Routes 20 and 56 head West on Route 20 for exactly 3 miles. Take left on to old Worcester Road, which is directly across from A.C.E. Auto Center (large red building on right). Go up a bit and bear left. Go to end and park. From the intersection of Routes 20 and 31 head East on Route 20 for 2.5 miles. Take right on to old Worcester Road and proceed as above.
G.H. WILSON ROAD IN SPENCER - At intersection of Routes 20 and 31 take Route 31 North for 6.4 miles to Capon Road on right. Take Capon Road to end (.4 miles). Take right and go .1 mile to G.H. Wilson Road on left. From Route 9, turn on to Route 31 heading South. Take left onto East Charlton Road to G.H. Wilson Road.
SPENCER, ROUTE 9 - Park in courthouse parking lot on Route 9 across from Spencer Country Inn. Trail starts about 100 yards east of here.
4H CLUB ON MCCORMACK ROAD IN SPENCER - Get to Ragsdale Chevrolet on Route 9. Take Paxton Road (directly opposite Ragsdale) north for 1.4 miles. Take left on to Gold Nugget Road for .6 miles to McCormack Road. Take right on to McCormack Road and head north for 1.9 miles to 4H Club. Parking lot on left.
EAST HILL ROAD IN RUTLAND - From the intersection of Routes 122 and 31 head West on Route 122 for 4.2 miles to Pleasantdale Road in Rutland. Take left on to Pleasantdale Road and go .5 miles to East Hill Road (dirt road) on right. Follow East Hill Road for about a mile to where Midstate Trail crosses it.
BARRE FALLS DAM - From the intersection of Routes 62 and 68 take Route 62 West for 2.2 miles. Take left on to entrance road and go 1.5 miles parking lot on left (in shaded area).
INTERVALE ROAD - Where Route 56 meets Route 68 take Route 68 north for .8 miles. Or, from intersection of Routes 62 and 68, take Route 68 South for 1.2 miles.
BALL HILL ROAD IN PRINCETON - At intersection of Routes 62 and 68 head east on Route 62 for 4.2 miles. Or, at intersection of Routes 62 and 31 in Princeton, head west on Route 62 for 2.2 miles.
WACHUSETT MOUNTAIN IN PRINCETON - Take Route I-190 to exit 5 (Route 140). Head North on Route 140 for 9.5 miles to main entrance on left. Continue on to upper parking lot. NOTE: speed limits on this section of Route 140 are strictly enforced!!
WACHUSETT VILAGE INN IN WESTMINSTER - Heading West on Route 2 get off at exit 27, Narrows Road. Take left at exit and go just over Route 2 overpass to Village Inn Road on Right. Take Village Inn Road for .6 miles to entrance on left. Use parking lot behind Inn.
GRAFFITI BRIDGE ON OAKMONT AVE IN WESTMINSTER - Take Exit 25 off Route 2 Westbound. Turn left on to Route 2! And take immediate left onto Town Farm Road. Drive to end and take right to graffiti bridge. From Route 140 heading North, cross Route 2 overpass and turn left onto Town Farm Road (see above).
ROUTE 12 IN ASHBURNHAM - take Route 12 North for 4.9 miles from intersection with Route 31. Watch for where trail crosses Route 12 and take right into driveway and proceed to last house. An alternate parking area is located on Route 12 about 20 yards North of trail crossing in small lot on left next to pond and dam.
ROUTE 119 IN ASHBURNHAM - From intersection with Route 101, take Route 119 West for 1.6 miles (opposite Pierce Road). Look for hurricane fence and parking lot on right.
Following are the directions to Buck Hill Tower in Rhode Island:
Take exit 2 off Route 395 to Route 16. Head east on Route 16 for 5.2 miles
to main entrance to Wallum Lake. This is Cedar Street which later becomes Wallum
Lake road and eventually RI Route 100. Follow Cedar St/Wallum Lake Rd for 4.0
miles to stop sign. Take right and go 2.1 miles to first driveable right after
Zamora Hospital. Go .1 miles and take right onto Buck Hill road. Go 1.2 miles
and Buck Hill Tower is on left and parking directly opposite on right. |
